Fine Blanking

Fine blanking is Burkland's core precision manufacturing capability. The process produces a clean, complete shear with precise features formed in a single stroke, making it well suited for components requiring tight dimensional control, excellent edge quality, flatness, perpendicularity, and repeatability.

Burkland operates fine blanking presses from 320-800 tons. The capability information identifies material thicknesses from approximately 2–16 mm.

Fine blanking can provide advantages over conventional stamping and other manufacturing processes when component geometry, material thickness, edge quality, and dimensional requirements demand a higher level of precision.

In-House Secondary Operations

Burkland's capabilities extend beyond the initial fine blanking operation. In-house secondary operations allow components to move through multiple manufacturing processes within an integrated production environment.

  • CNC machining
  • Double-disc grinding
  • Fine grinding
  • Broaching
  • Deburring
  • Drilling and tapping
  • Assembly

Combining these processes with fine blanking can reduce the need for separate suppliers and help maintain control over quality, dimensional requirements, and production consistency.

In-House Tooling Design, Manufacturing & Maintenance

Burkland designs, manufactures, and maintains its tooling in-house. This capability gives the manufacturing team direct control over tooling development, production support, modifications, and maintenance.

Tooling capabilities include:

  • Tool design
  • Tool construction
  • Tool maintenance
  • Wire EDM
  • CNC milling
  • CNC turning
  • Grinding

Keeping tooling capabilities in-house allows Burkland to maintain closer control over the tooling that directly affects part quality, repeatability, and production performance.

From Tooling to Production

Burkland can support projects from initial evaluation and process development through tooling, prototype development, production manufacturing, secondary operations, and assembly.

  • Value engineering and project value analysis
  • Process design
  • Tooling design
  • Complete tooling manufacture
  • Prototype development
  • Production manufacturing
  • Secondary operations
  • Assembly

Our engineers can evaluate the application, material, annual volume, geometry, and performance requirements to determine the appropriate manufacturing approach.

Materials

Burkland's capabilities include manufacturing components from a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.

  • Low-carbon steel
  • High-carbon steel
  • Special alloy steel
  • Copper
  • Brass
  • Aluminum

Material selection can be evaluated as part of the overall manufacturing and value-engineering process.

Additional Manufacturing Services

Burkland's capability information also identifies additional processes that can support finished component requirements.

  • Heat treatment
  • Plating and coating
  • Over molding
  • Heat staking

Quality & Testing

Quality is integrated into Burkland's manufacturing process, from part review and process control through production.

Burkland is IATF 16949 certified, supporting the company's commitment to controlled manufacturing processes and consistent quality for demanding applications.

A Single Manufacturing Source

Burkland brings multiple manufacturing disciplines together under one roof. Fine blanking, tooling, machining, grinding, broaching, drilling and tapping, deburring, and assembly can be integrated into a coordinated manufacturing solution.

This approach gives customers a single manufacturing partner for complex precision metal components rather than requiring every process to be managed through separate suppliers.

75,000-Square-Foot Manufacturing Facility

Burkland operates from a 75,000-square-foot manufacturing facility designed to support precision metal manufacturing, tooling, secondary operations, and assembly.

The combination of manufacturing equipment, tooling capabilities, secondary operations, and engineering support allows Burkland to manage a broad range of precision component requirements within a single manufacturing operation.

Have a Challenging Part?

If you have a component that conventional stamping, machining, or other manufacturing processes struggle to produce consistently, Burkland can evaluate the part, material, annual volume, geometry, and performance requirements to determine the appropriate manufacturing approach.
